SOFIA CC - playing today. [An Arpwire Artist Spotlight]

Sofia’s music atmosphere is one of a kind. One second, you’ll find yourself dancing with bright lights at a house party with four on the floor, and then next you’re in cyber space being lifted by 2000’s breakbeats.. SOFIA CC is an artist/producer/DJ from Argentina. Where she isn’t a stranger to music, after being enamored by all the instruments she grew up around. But is currently getting their feet wet in mixing, and DJing. With time and the care that Sofia is putting forward toward their music. I truly believe we’re watching the emergence of a celebrated artist.

What's your background in music?

I started playing my grandpa’s broken guitar when I was 9 until I started taking lessons, suddenly I was obsessed with every instrument I saw and started taking algo drums and saxophone lessons. In my teen years I distanced myself from music until 2019 when I started studying music in college (I lasted only one semester) on 2020 I got into music production and been experimenting different genres since then.

Your ‘HOTGIRL ELECTRO MINI SET IN MY BED’ has a featured guest of a cute dog sleeping in the back. What's your dog's name?!

I love that you noticed! That’s GALA the greyhound.

The ‘QUÉ ABURRIDA TU FIESTA’ music video is amazing. It seemed like you had a great team of people to make it. Was there any goal or any visuals that you had in mind to create the video?

Thank you! Yes, we were lots of people on set it was very fun. I had the idea and a friend that’s a film maker helped me to make it real and also proposed new ideas like the dogs on set.

What does your process look like when you’re making music or mixes?

My process most of the times is just opening Ableton and trying sounds or samples until melodies come to my mind and suddenly there’s a new song on the way. Some other times I get really inspired by something I hear, like a game soundtrack or some song, then I just start playing with things that sound similar until I get on track with something.

GALA - the very good pup.

Do you use any unconventional tools, samples, or techniques to capture your sound?

I get into reddit’s deepest posts to find samples or I also use splice! I discovered it last year and been using it for inspiration and samples.

One of my favorite tracks off your new album ‘hyperalbum’ is ‘Lo Entiendo’. Your voice sits so well in the synth and drum chops you used. Wanted to ask what the songwriting was about. Anything in particular the song is about?

Lo Entiendo is about feeling like you want attention from someone you like but at the same time feeling a bit weird about yourself and being childish about it.

How is the DJ scene over in Argentina?

The dj scene in Argentina is really diverse, there are many talented DJs from different genres. There are lots of new djs starting to appear all the time.

Any artists or producers that you’ve collaborated with in the past that you’ve enjoyed working with?

MARS (Brazil)  and SATIRA (Argentina).

What are some projects coming up that you’ve been working on?

Working on my DJ and production skills. Getting into sound engineering. An EP with some remixes and a new album. I hope i get to do all of that this next year.
